Fofie Connect

Ghana child sponsorship platform. Milestone motivation · sponsor-child matching.

Fofie Connect Ghana child sponsorship platform
In short

Fofie Connect is a Ghana child sponsorship platform that directly couples a sponsor to a child. The child sees their own progress, knows who the sponsor is and receives recognition at every milestone. This milestone motivation sits at the core, making sponsorship tangible for both sides.

— CHALLENGE

The challenge at Fofie Connect.

Fofie Foundation, set up by two Ghanaian-Dutch board members, wanted to break away from the anonymous charity model where money simply lands on a child from nowhere. The brief was sharp: build a platform where a sponsored child in Ghana can see who believes in them and feels recognised at every milestone. At the same time everything had to meet strict safeguarding rules for minors and the GDPR. No WhatsApp between sponsor and child, no scattered tools, but a moderated environment that delivers both motivation for the child and transparency for the donor.

— APPROACH

Our approach.

We chose the NedDev stack: Laravel with Filament for administration and moderation, Next.js for the public side. The core is one data model with two views: the child sees milestones and recognition, the donor sees savings goals. Each yearly budget was split into concrete pots such as uniform, books and exam fees, with progress bars and proof per expense.

All communication runs through our own dashboard with a moderation queue: a coordinator reviews every message before it reaches the child. This keeps all data in-house, with a full audit trail and the option of delayed delivery for review.

— OUTCOME

What it delivered.

Fofie gained a platform that makes the sponsor-child connection explicit. A child knows by name who pays for their uniform, and at each milestone (matched, school transition, exam passed, birthday) recognition flows both ways. The motivation anchor shifted from I receive money to someone believes in me.

For donors, every euro is visible per pot, backed by a receipt photo, MoMo id or school confirmation. The safeguarding layer and GDPR-compliant moderation are built in, not bolted on. The code was donated to Fofie Foundation, which remains owner of the platform, the data and the donor relationship.
