Moonay

Headless commerce rebuild. Shopify Storefront API · Next.js 16 · SEO/AEO/GEO.

Moonay Rugs webshop with headless Shopify
In short

Moonay is a headless rug webshop we built on Next.js 16 with the Shopify Storefront API. Shopify handles checkout and stock, while Next.js delivers speed, SEO URLs and design. The 191-product catalogue runs against live data, with SEO, AEO and GEO built in from the very first line of code.

Not just client work. Our own products too.

— CHALLENGE

The challenge at Moonay.

Moonay sells rugs online but was locked into a conventional Shopify theme setup. The store was slow, the product pages were hitting the limits of the theme, and search visibility lagged behind. For a catalogue that lives on rich product photography and clear colour choices, that was a real brake on growth.

The brief was specific: keep Shopify as the dependable checkout and catalogue manager, but lift the frontend off it. A fast, fully owned storefront experience that could be steered on presentation, performance and SEO, without disturbing order fulfilment.

— APPROACH

Our approach.

We built Moonay as headless commerce: Shopify stays the source for catalogue, stock and checkout, exposed through the Storefront API. The entire frontend runs on Next.js 16, giving us free rein over product pages, filtering and layout.

One quirk in the data: colour did not live in variants but in the product title, with each colour as a separate product. So the colour filter reads the title. The design was built against real Shopify data, with SEO, AEO and GEO treated as a starting point rather than an afterthought.

— OUTCOME

What it delivered.

Moonay now has a custom storefront running on live Shopify data, with checkout and catalogue management left untouched inside Shopify. The product pages present the rich photography as intended, and colour selection works smoothly through the title-based filter despite the unusual data structure.

By building SEO, AEO and GEO in from the foundation, the store is set up for visibility in classic search results and in AI answers alike. The headless setup gives Moonay the freedom to keep sharpening presentation and speed without ever touching the reliable Shopify fulfilment layer.
