— CHALLENGE

The challenge at CalorForm.

CalorForm grew out of a personal trainer's daily practice, where separate calorie apps and workout plans never came together. Clients dropped off because advice stayed generic and nothing adjusted to their actual progress. The brief to NedDev: build a fitness and nutrition platform that thinks along like a real coach, installs on a phone without an app store, and is dependable enough to run a paid subscription on.

The bar was high. AI advice that holds up, an installable PWA, and a payment flow ready for production without the trainer doing manual work per client.

— APPROACH

Our approach.

We built CalorForm as a PWA so clients run it straight from their home screen without an app-store barrier. The AI layer uses Grok 4.3 for nutrition and training advice that responds to the user's input. Work ran across four scoped phases, each closed off with a green test suite before the next one started.

For subscriptions we chose Mollie, a natural fit for the Dutch market and its iDEAL habits. Test coverage grew alongside every phase, so the payment and AI logic stayed solid as later features landed.

— OUTCOME

What it delivered.

After four phases there is a working AI fitness platform with 186 green tests underpinning the AI, user, and payment logic. The Grok 4.3 advice adapts to each client, and the PWA installs on the phone without a detour.

The Mollie integration makes the platform subscribable, letting the trainer scale clients without per-person effort. CalorForm moved from a personal trainer's idea to a tested foundation ready to build further on.
